Starting into a particularly busy week today, I shared a mantra that I keep repeating to myself recently whenever I feel overwhelmed with my to-do list on Instagram this morning: the world won’t end if I don’t get everything done. It does sound incredibly obvious when you say it out loud, even when you only repeat it in your head, but still if have found this little reminder very helpful. When I feel tense or anxious, I'll try to get to the bottom of what exactly stresses me out, and then come up with a mantra tailored to calm this fear or stress. Saying it out loud (or even having my husband repeat it to me) gets me safely to the other end of moments of anxiety, and helps me refocus my energy. I loved reading about all of your thoughts, routines and mantras for stressful times, so I thought I'd share a few of them!
- The sun will still rise tomorrow whether I get everything done today or not.
- Tomorrow is a new day.
- It’s just knitting [insert whatever it is that you're doing]. I’m not running a small country.
- How important will this seem five years from now?
- Let go of things you can’t change.
- Panta rhei (all flows).
Is there anything you come back to again and again? I'd love to hear!
